Originally from Berne, Joss has been based in Biel since 2001. He studied the double bass under Erick Peter and Peter Frei at the Swiss Jazz School Berne, and undertook classical music studies with Béla Szédlák.
Joss is currently participating in the following projects: Fancy free Trio, Öppis isch geng, Die Freitagsmusik, Duo Hauri Joss, Biel Bienne Jazz & ImproOrchestra BBJIO. Some of his earlier projects were with the Martin Dahanukar Quartett, Kalabuleband (with Clark Terry and Kenny Wheeler), Latin Odyssey, Patrick Muller Trio, Sauter Joss and Bitterlins Toy, and JazzHorchester.
He has taught at the music schools of Biel and Köniz and the academic high school Gymnasium Köniz-Lerbermatt since 1990.
